AGBU Performing Arts Presents: The Gurdjieff Ensemble

The Gurdjieff Ensemble US debut tour with AGBU Performing Arts is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Komitas (1869-1935). The internationally acclaimed Gurdjieff Ensemble was founded by Levon Eskenian to play ethnographically authentic arrangements of the G.I. Gurdjieff/Thomas de Hartmann piano music. The Ensemble consists of Armenia’s leading musicians playing traditional instruments. Their debut album on the famous ECM records, “Music of Georges.I. Gurdjieff”, was widely acclaimed, and won prestigious awards including the Edison Award in the Netherlands. The Ensemble has been touring the world with sold out concerts at major festivals and concert halls in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Russia and South America. The Ensemble has performed in such prestigious festivals and venues as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Boulez hall in Berlin, the Bozar Center in Brussels, the Holland Festival, the Morgenland Festival in Germany, the Albert Hall in Canberra, the Imago Dei Festival in Austria, the Gulbenkian Hall in Lisbon and many others.

What happens after Romeo and Juliet perish? Why, the young lovers become zombies and are raised from the dead! True love never dies, after all. With the help of a mysterious Apothecary, intrepid cousin Rosaline is whisked to the Underworld where she comes face-to-face with Vampires, Spiders, Lost Souls, Gargoyles and more in her search for Romeo and Juliet. Will she escape unharmed - or be swallowed up for all eternity?

"Sweet Sorrow, A Zombie Ballet" is the only annual ballet of the Halloween season in Los Angeles. A deeply romantic, imaginative and surreal performance, this signature show is part of the Leigh Purtill Ballet Company’s effort to bring ballet to the mainstream and help make the art form more accessible to a broad audience.

For many Armenian parents, it’s a dream come true when their child finds an Armenian spouse. But as soon as the wedding planning commences, that’s when the problems – and the comedy – begin.

The sequel to the original hit play, Where Is Your Groom? (Փեսադ Ո՞ւր Է:), will debut for the Los Angeles community on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., at the AGBU Manoukian Performing Arts Center in an event hosted by the Tekeyan Cultural Association Metro Los Angeles Chapter.

Following 12 performances around the country, America’s favorite Armenian family returns in this funny, smart, and culturally relevant play, written by Taleen Babayan, that ties together elements of the Armenian-American experience that is relatable to all generations.

AGBU Western District Presents:
A Classical Evening in Honor of Arno Babajanyan

Join the AGBU Western District in honoring world renowned composer Arno Babajanyan on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the newly renovated state-of-the-art AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian Performing Arts Center. The evening will be filled with Armenian stars who will pay homage to the late composer by performing many of his popular songs.

Artists set to perform are Emmy, Armen Guzelimian, Sargis Manukyan, Ani Kristi, Armen Ksajikian, Sona Nalbandyan, Narek Makaryan, Armen Der-Kevorkian, Allen Dishigrikyan, the AGBU LA Choir and a live band!

The evening will commence at 7:00 pm with a cocktail hour and the concert will begin promptly at 8:00 pm.
